The Friedrich Ebert Foundation was established in 1925. As the oldest political foundation in Germany it is a private public institution committed to the ideals and values of social democracy. It is named after Germany's first democratically-elected president, Friedrich Ebert, and continues to pursue his legacy of building freedom solidarity and social justice. The Foundation carries out this mission both in Germany and abroad, through its programmes of civic education, international cooperation scholarships and research.

"Development policy is the peace policy of the 21st century" This statement by Willy Brandt has become the leitmotiv of our daily work.

It is the mission of the Division for International Cooperation of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) promote democracy and development in Africa, Asia and Latin America. As part of this mission for common future, we are trying to contribute out share;

  • to consolidate democracy by involving as many social groups as possible
  • to promote economic reforms and a policy of social justice
  • to establish a set of common fundamental values for the development of society

The challenge we are facing is to continously adapt to our programmes and approaches to the development of the societies in which we are working.
